The WNBA’s underdogs refuse to go away, as three consecutive wins for the No. 7 Mystics have seen a young Washington team stand their ground among the league’s best.

  • Far from just stealing wins against lottery teams, the Mystics extended their three-game winning streak with a 74-69 victory over the No. 4 Storm on Sunday.

Fever rebound: The Mystics weren’t the only squad to impress this weekend. The Indiana Fever rattled off two straight wins to push to sixth place, including an impressive 99-82 result against No. 5 Atlanta on Friday.

  • "I thought I was just a really good floor general tonight, and I think that's something I can be more proud of than making shots,” guard Caitlin Clark told ESPN.

Reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson also saw a triumphant return, scoring 34 points in a 104-102 Aces win over Golden State on Saturday after sitting out the previous game with a wrist injury.

  • Jackie Young contributed 30 points, though Las Vegas still sits just out of playoff range with one game to play going into the All-Star break.

This week’s WNBA action kicks off with No. 1 Minnesota looking to get revenge on Chicago, after the Sky beat the WNBA’s top team, 87-81, on Saturday.

  • “Somebody said we aren’t the best young core in the league, I think we’re the best for sure,” said Sky forward Angel Reese after notching her eighth-straight double double in Saturday’s win. “We do it every single night.”

The All-Star break starts Thursday, with all 13 teams playing at least one more game between now and then. Tonight’s schedule:

  • Minnesota vs. Chicago, 8 PM ET (League Pass): The Lynx will look to avenge their weekend loss as they try to maintain their multi-game lead in the standings going into this weekend’s All-Star game.

  • Phoenix vs. Golden State, 10 PM ET (League Pass): The Valkyries return home after an extended away trip, hoping for a boost from their impressive home crowd against the league’s No. 2 team.

World No. 3 Iga Swiatek won her first Wimbledon title on Saturday, dominating first-time finalist Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to earn the sixth Grand Slam of her young career.

  • Swiatek is the first woman to win Wimbledon without dropping a single game in the final in over 100 years, after Dorothea Lambert Chambers did it in 1911.

Big picture: With grass proving to be one of the trickiest surfaces in the modern calendar, Swiatek is now the eighth consecutive first-time Wimbledon champion on the women’s side.

  • “Today, I just wanted to enjoy the time that I had on the Centre Court and enjoy the last hours of me playing well on grass, because who knows if it's going to happen again,” she joked after the win.

What’s next: The tennis world now switches back to many players’ preferred hardcourt surface, as the US Open wraps up the Slam calendar in August.

Big picture: Mystics guard Sonia Citron is the only other confirmed participant in the 2025 iteration of the event, in something of a full-circle moment for the rookie All-Star.

  • “Growing up, I loved Sabrina … I love her game, she does it all,” Citron told Lisa Leslie on the Between the Lines podcast last week. “She really makes your life hard as a defender. That’s what I want to do when I’m playing.”
