Once-unbeaten No. 5 Vanderbilt is charging ahead, getting an extra day to recover from their blowout loss to No. 3 South Carolina after winter weather pushed tonight’s ranked clash with No. 17 Ole Miss to Friday.
“This is why you want to play games like this, on the road in an incredible environment,” Vanderbilt head coach Shea Ralph said after Sunday’s streak-ending defeat. “There are all kinds of things that we can’t control that are happening right now, but the most important part to me is how we respond to it, and that’s what we’re going to focus on.”
Ole Miss is fresh off a bounce-back of their own, beating Missouri 82-61 last week behind forward Cotie McMahon’s 33 points. (Watch full highlights)
Big picture: The winter storm sweeping the South is beyond both teams’ control, with tomorrow’s matchup now moved to Birmingham, Alabama’s Legacy Arena.
“Disappointed that we lost a home game BUT grateful that we get to play,” Ole Miss head coach Yolette McCuin posted to social media, thanking administrators after the storm forced the Rebels to postpone Monday’s matchup against No. 15 Tennessee indefinitely. “Alabama Rebs we could use your support!”
The pair last met in February 2025, with Ole Miss topping Vanderbilt 76-61 — though the Commodores’ hot start could flip that script this year.

Gotham falls in FIFA Champions Cup upset

Gotham’s FIFA Champions Cup dreams have ended, as Brazil’s SC Corinthians upset the reigning NWSL champs 1-0 in yesterday’s London semifinal.
Corinthians captain Gabi Zanotti scored the match’s lone goal in the 83rd minute, after Gotham’s Gabi Portilho and Rose Lavelle exited with injury.
“We feel like we probably should have done better throughout the game and been more clinical in both boxes,” Gotham defender Jess Carter said postgame. “There’s not really much more to say other than probably a little bit disappointed by it.” (Watch full highlights)
Scheduling concerns: Gotham was at a calendar disadvantage as the semifinal’s only team not in-season, with players voicing frustration as FIFA eyes a January start for the 2028 Club World Cup.
“You’re asking [NWSL] players to cut their offseason short when everyone’s just had competitions and Euros and traveling across the world,” Carter continued. “We all want to play, we want to give everybody the highest level of entertainment, and we can only do that if were all fully fit and that goes across the board for every single women’s game.”
Gotham will now face ASFAR for a shot at a third-place finish, after UWCL winners Arsenal took down the Moroccan champions 6-0 in Wednesday’s second semifinal. (Watch full highlights)
Tune in: Gotham kicks off against ASFAR on Sunday at 9:45 AM ET, before Arsenal takes on Corinthians at 1 PM ET, live on CBS Sports.

Women’s clubs are shelling it out, as FIFA’s 2025 Global Transfer Report showed women’s pro teams reaching record spending highs last year.
Clubs spent a total of $28.6 million on international transfers — up 83.6% over 2024 even without accounting for intra-league deals.
England led the pack in spending, dropping $11 million in fees while taking in $2.1 million in sales, followed by the NWSL’s $7.9 million spent.
Running the numbers: Reigning WSL champions Chelsea sit atop the list, after high-profile signings like USWNT stars Naomi Girma and Alyssa Thompson.
US billionaire Michele Kang’s WSL side London City trails the Blues at No. 2, followed by France’s Kang-owned OL Lyonnes.
Six NWSL teams made the Top 10, including No. 4 Orlando, No. 5 Utah, and No. 6 Washington — with the Spirit also falling into Kang’s portfolio.
