No. 9 Indiana’s early-season cohesion is raising concerns, after Saturday’s 100-84 drubbing by expansion side No. 6 Portland punctuated a two-game skid.

  • Star Fever guard Caitlin Clark scored just six points in the loss while picking up five fouls, highlighting backcourt frustrations on both sides of the ball.

  • “I just need to do a better job being straight up, keep the defender in front of me,” Clark said postgame. “But it’s just basketball — just a game, you know? Learn from it, watch the film and come back next game and be ready to go.” (Watch full highlights)

Tough road: Back-to-back losses have exposed No. 9 Indiana’s defense, with Thursday’s 90-88 loss to No. 5 Golden State laying the foundation for the No. 6 Fire’s triple-digit scoreline.

  • “We put a lot of pressure on our offense to be perfect when we don’t consistently defend,” Fever head coach Stephanie White said earlier this year. “We can’t wait to play defense in situations where we feel good.”

  • “We gotta be able to defend all of the time,” echoed Clark. “That’s our biggest area of growth.” (See full standings)

The NWSL has officially hit pause, as the league enters its month-long Men’s World Cup break with a new leader at the top of the table.

  • Sunday’s 2-0 win over No. 15 Chicago launched No. 1 San Diego atop the NWSL standings, leapfrogging No. 3 Portland and No. 2 Utah after the pair’s Saturday clash ended in a 2-2 stalemate.

  • “Everyone’s excited to go into the break — we’re going to come back even stronger,” Wave midfielder Tatum Wynalda told reporters. “So happy we ended on a W.” (Watch full highlights)

Sizing up: While several teams enter June with games in hand, stiff competition has been on full display through the 2026 NWSL season’s first half.

  • Just eight points separate the eight clubs currently in playoff contention, with four points dividing first and sixth place and two points sitting between the final postseason ticket and the first elimination slot.

  • The Stars join No. 14 Boston and No. 16 Louisville below the nine-point mark, with Racing sitting last on a 2-8-1 record. (See full standings)

The 2026 WCWS took the weekend by storm, as NCAA softball titans collided en route to this week’s Women’s College World Series Finals.

  • Alabama and Tennessee rolled through the competition, taking both weekend matchups to enter today’s semifinals with the winners’ advantage.

  • Defending champion Texas and 2025 runner-up Texas Tech managed to stave off elimination, as the Longhorns broke up a Nebraska no-hitter and the Red Raiders survived UCLA in extra innings. (Watch full highlights)

How it works: Today’s semifinals pit winners Alabama and Tennessee against losers Texas Tech and Texas, with the winning sides needing just one victory to advance while the underdogs need two.

  • Should the Longhorns beat the Lady Vols or the Red Raiders defeat the Crimson Tide, a second winner-take-all game immediately follows as a doubleheader.

World Sevens Football has a new champion, as WSL squad Chelsea won the global small-sided tournament on Saturday — and bagged its $500,000 purse.
